There are two main applications for using the Monero cryptocurrency on desktop operating
systems:

- The official, open-source [Monero GUI wallet](https://www.getmonero.org/downloads/)
- The open-source [Feather](https://featherwallet.org/) wallet.

From our experience, Feather is the most easy to setup and interact with.

## Install Feather

Feather can be installed on all desktop operating systems. See their
[documentation](https://docs.featherwallet.org/guides/supported-operating-systems) for
specific instructions. Especially for Linux, we would recommend
[installing feather through flatpak](https://docs.featherwallet.org/guides/linux#flatpak)
and not as a standalone executable or AppImage, as this is more secure.

## Use Feather

With feather, you can easily send and receive Monero. Although we would like to add some
tips in the future, for now refer to the official feather documentation. Have a look at:

- [Creating a new wallet](https://docs.featherwallet.org/guides/create-wallet).
- [First Start](https://docs.featherwallet.org/guides/first-start)

For sending and receiving Monero, you will always have to use an "address" which you can
think of as an anonymous and (if you wish) temporary IBAN.
